  Monte Toro
  Monte Toro is the highest peak in Menorca at an altitude of 358m. From the top, you can see almost all of the island, including beautiful beaches, lush green countryside, and the Mediterranean Sea. Furthermore, if you visit on a clear day, you will catch sight of Mallorca in the distance. Without a doubt this is one of the top photo spots in Menorca!
   
  Punta Nati
  Constructed in 1912 to help prevent constant ship wrecks off the coast, Punta Nati is a lighthouse on the north west of the island. This is the photo spot for that breath-taking Menorcan sunset shot!
   
  Cala Macarella and Macarelleta
  Nobody visits Menorca without taking at least one snap of a stunning white sand beach with turquoise waters. There are so many beautiful beaches to choose from, and a favourite for a paradise pic is Cala Macarella and its sister beach Cala Macarelleta. These virgin beaches are the ones you see on the postcards, and the spectacular scenery will not disappoint!
   
  Pont d’en Gil
  On the northwest coast, near Cala en Blanes, you will find Pont d’en Gil, a cliff with an archway created by years of erosion. A photo taken standing on this natural suspension bridge is a definite Instagram-worthy pic!
   
  Binibeca Vell
  One of the most architecturally charming places on the island is the fishing village at Binibeca Vell, a cluster of white-washed houses with narrow cobbled streets.   Cova d’en Xoroi

  Weather in Menorca

  Menorca has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers. From the beginning of May to the end of October the weather on the island is dry with warm temperatures that are perfect for a Menorca villa holiday. One of the questions that our guests often ask before booking their villa is  ¨What is the weather like in Menorca?”, to answer this question, we have prepared a month by month weather guide to help you decide which month is best for your visit to the island.

  Weather in Menorca in May
  The average daily maximum temperature in May is 22 ºC and the average minimum temperature is 14 ºC. Visitors will enjoy the sunshine and blue skies during the day and should pack a light jacket or a jumper for the cooler evenings. The rainfall in Menorca in May averages at 29mm (higher than June, July or August), therefore there is a small chance that you will catch a thunderstorm, however, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy on the odd rainy day! This is the beginning of the summer season, so beaches are quiet and villa rental prices are low.
  
  Weather in Menorca in June
  The average high temperature in June is 27 ºC and the average low is 17 ºC. This is the perfect month for visitors who are not restricted to travelling during school holidays. The weather in Menorca in June is warmer and drier than May, yet not as hot as July or August, and beaches are half as busy as they are in peak season. The average sea temperature in June is 21 ºC, which is ideal for cooling off during the hotter hours of the day! Villa rental prices for the month of June are a little higher than May, but still considerably lower than prices for July and August.
  
  Weather in Menorca in July
  July is when the hotter summer temperatures begin, with an average high of 29 ºC and an average low of 24 ºC. This is also the driest month of the year, with just 7mm of rainfall visitors are guaranteed to be bathed in sunshine! Beaches gradually get busier this month as school holidays begin in both the UK and European countries. July is high season, therefore rental prices are higher than May and June, however, they are still lower than August.
  
  Weather in Menorca in August
  August is the hottest month of the year, with an average daytime temperature of 30 ºC and a nighttime average of 24 ºC. The weather in Menorca in August is for sun and beach lovers; with 13 hours of sunshine per day, very high temperatures, and the Mediterranean sea that feels like a warm bath at 26 ºC. The average rainfall of 22mm during the month of August is higher than that of July, but there is no need to pack a rain jacket as the odd shower will not last for long! August is peak season and rental prices are at their highest, however, renting a holiday villa is still the cheaper accommodation option, especially if you need more than one bedroom!
  
  Weather in Menorca in September
  The average maximum temperature is 26 ºC, the average minimum temperature is 19 ºC, and the sea temperature a warm 25 ºC. The weather in Menorca in September is perfect. As school holidays have come to an end, beaches are much quieter than previous months. Visitors should pack summer clothes and something a little warmer for the evenings. Rainfall is approximately 70mm and most wet days tend to happen during the second half of the month. Villa rental prices begin to decrease in September as the island moves back into low season.
  
  Weather in Menorca in October
  Temperatures in October are similar to those in May, with an average high of 22 ºC and an average low of 16 ºC. This month is when visitors travel to the island to catch the last of the warm weather before the autumn temperatures set in. Shorts and t-shirt can be worn in the daytime, but you will need to pack a waterproof jacket as rainfall this month averages at 78mm and thunderstorms are not unusual. After the hot summer months, the average sea temperature is a warm 23 ºC, this is 4 ºC higher than May at the beginning of the summer season.   Artist Studio & Gallery Broeschen – If you are looking for something unique, this is the place for you. Anke Carola Broeschen creates beautiful handmade mosaic lamps, glasses and serving platters from pieces of glass she finds washed up on Menorca´s beaches.   Natura - This store can be confused for an independent boutique, however, it is a Spanish retail chain. You will find clothing, complements, books, home decor, and unique gifts that you never even knew existed!

  Open-Air Markets 
  
  Every Tuesday and Saturday morning, the main square in Mahon, Plaza de la Explanada, becomes an open-air market. This is the largest open-air market in Mahon, and the one with the most stalls.   A visit to Aqua Center waterpark is a fun-filled day for the whole family. Located north of Ciutadella, this 12500m2 park has swimming pools, jacuzzis, and water activities for all ages. From the giant water slides for the thrill-seeking tweens to the splash pool for toddlers, there is something to keep everyone happy! And if waterparks are not your thing, you can simply sit back, relax, and watch the fun from a sunbed in the shade.

  Menorca Transport and Getting Around

  Many of our guests ask us the best way to travel from the airport to our Menorca holiday villas, and others ask about the best transport options for exploring Menorca. To answer these questions, we have put together our quick guide to Menorca Transport and Getting Around.

  Car and Scooter Hire
  Without a doubt, the most comfortable form of transport is a car or scooter that can be hired directly from the airport on arrival or from your Menorca holiday villa resort. With your own set of wheels, you will be able to explore all corners of the island at your leisure with no waiting around for buses or taxis. Whether you are travelling as a family, a large group of friends, or as a couple, there are vehicles available to suit all! Prices for 5 door car hire start from 30€ per day, and for those more adventurous, a 125cc scooter during May and October is as low as 20€ per day. A tip for when you are searching for the best car hire on the island is to be sure to read the small print. Some of the larger multi-national companies claim to offer the best prices, however, on arrival you may be presented with extra charges with the added inconvenience of a long wait for a shuttle bus to the outskirts of the airport vicinity. Our recommendation is to go local! Local family-run car hire companies often offer the best rates and conditions with a brilliant service.
   
  Buses
  During the summer season, bus services are available from all beach resorts to the main municipalities. The plus side of public transport is that you can avoid the hassle of driving and parking in the town centres, however, the downside is that getting from A to B will take considerably longer than if you hire a vehicle or take a taxi. Although there are few bus connections between holiday resorts, more often than not, you will first have to travel to one of the island´s larger towns and then connect with another bus towards the coast. The same scenario applies from the airport, first a bus to Mahón bus station and then another one or two buses to your Menorca holiday villa. The bus companies serving the island are TMSA (all municipality towns and south coast), Autos Fornells (north-east coast, Mahón, Alaior, and Es Mercadal), and Autocares Torres (Ciutadella, west coast, Mahón airport, and Mahón), and tariffs range from 1.30€ for shorter journeys to 5.40€ from Mahón to Ciutadella. Updated route timetables and tariffs are available on the company websites.
   
  Taxis and Transfers
  Taking a radio taxi or transfer from the airport to your Menorca holiday villa is very easy as both are available directly outside the arrivals terminal. Taxis are available on-demand, and transfers, which are the perfect option for large parties, must be reserved in advance. There are also premium transfer companies offering services in high range vehicles to and from Mahón airport. 
  When it comes to sightseeing and exploring, if you plan to move around the island quite a bit, the overall cost of doing so with a taxi or transfer could become pretty pricey as there is no UBER service on the island! Be sure to cost up your options first, as it is probably more cost-effective to hire a vehicle for the duration or part of your stay. There are taxi stands in the centre of all towns and resorts, look for the white cars with a green light on top, which is illuminated when the taxi is available.

  3-Day Menorca Itinerary

  Most people visit Menorca for 7 nights or more, however, with daily flights from the UK and other European destinations during the summer season, why not visit the island for a long weekend? The short flight time and the proximity of our Menorca holiday villa rentals to the airport make for a great getaway break. The island has much to offer and to lend a hand we have put together the following 3 day trip itinerary.

  -
  Day 1
  Start your trip in the capital town Mahon, with a little retail therapy in the town centre followed by a stroll on the port and lunch at one of the many popular restaurants.
   
  In the afternoon, head over to the northern side of the port for a guided cultural tour of La Mola Fortress, which is a spectacular example of 19th-century military architecture. The views from here will not disappoint!
   
  After a busy day, in the evening sit back and relax whilst tasting local wines and cheese at the island´s vineyard, Bodegas de Binifadet. 
   
  Day 2
  Start your day early and head east to wander through the historic capital, Ciutadella, and visit the 14th century Santa María Cathedral. 
   
  Es Mercadal, the typical Menorcan town in the centre of the island is the perfect stop for lunch, however, first be sure to climb to the island´s highest point, Monte Toro. The 360º views from just 358m altitude are spectacular! 
   
  Finally, the time has come to enjoy one of the white-sand, crystal clear turquoise water beaches that everyone talks about! Head southwards towards Es Migjorn, where you will be able to choose between Santo Tomás beach resort or the most visited virgin beach on the south-central coast, Binigaus. 
   
  You will be well and truly relaxed after your afternoon gazing at the Mediterranean Sea. Continue with this chilled-out vibe with a sunset cocktail at Cova d'en Xoroi, before dining at one of several restaurants at Cala en Porter. 
   
  Day 3 
  Time to head northwards. Cavallería lighthouse is one of the island´s most visited lighthouses, and is a great sightseeing trip to combine with a north-coast virgin beach, Cavallería, Binimel·la or Pregonda. 
   
  After the morning relaxing on the golden sand, head towards Fornells harbour to luncheon at one of the islands famous fish restaurants, followed by a walk in S'Albufera des Grau in the Biosphere Reserve near Mahón. The peace and tranquillity inside the natural park is wonderful!
   
  For dinner on the third evening, it´s Cales Fonts in Es Castell. The picturesque port has a vibrant atmosphere with sea-front bars and restaurants embedded inside the cliff edge, artisan market stalls and the comings and goings of fisherman´s boats.

  Top 10 Virgin Beaches in Menorca

  Menorca is the most conserved of the Balearic Islands and was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 1993. The island´s landscape is beautiful, and its coastline, scattered with virgin beaches on both the south and north coast, is truly breath-taking.
  
  To follow, in no particular order as each is as beautiful as the next, are our top 10 virgin beaches that you must visit when staying at your Menorca holiday villa.

  Cala Macarella – south coast
  White sand backed by pine forests and a crystal clear turquoise bay protected by high limestone cliffs is the picture of paradise you will find at Cala Macarella and its smaller sister beach, Cala Macarelleta. This is the one you see on the postcards!
   
  Binigaus Beach – south coast
  A short walk from Sant Tomás resort will bring you to the most visited virgin beaches on the south-central coast. Binigaus is where the flat coastal land joins the high cliffs to the south-west. The shallow water and the relatively easy walk to this beach is ideal for children.        
   
  Cala en Turqueta – south coast
  Fitting to its name, Cala Turqueta is a beautiful turquoise bay. This small white sand virgin beach is south of Ciutadella, and although less popular than Macarella and Mitjana, it is just as spectacular!
   
  Algaiarens Beach – north coast
  Situated 10km north of Ciutadella, Cala Algaiarens (also known as las playas de La Vall) is a large bay with transparent water and two beautiful white-sand beaches, Playa Del Tancats and Playa Des Bot.
   
  Cala Pilar – north coast
  Cala Pilar is a hidden shell-shaped bay on the north coast, with the tones of red rock and golden sand enhanced by the turquoise Mediterranean sea. The scenery en-route to this bay makes for a wonderful walk.
   
  Cavalleria Beach – north coast
  A few kilometres from Cavalleria lighthouse is Cavalleria beach, with thick-grained golden sand surrounded by rugged landscape with little vegetation. For those who enjoy snorkelling, Cavalleria forms part of Menorca´s protected Marine Reserve.
   
  Cala Mitjana – south coast
  Unsurprisingly the most photographed beach in Menorca, Cala Mitjana´s contrast of turquoise water, fine white sand, and green pine forests, induce a state of euphoria. This one is a definite must-visit!
   
  Cala Pregonda – north coast
  Cala Pregonda is probably the most original virgin beach on the island, with small islets protecting the golden sand. The inviting turquoise water is ideal for snorkelling and for those who like a challenge, Escull de Pregonda on the largest islet is a mini beach that can only be reached by swimming.
   
  Cala Tortuga and Cala Presili - north coast
  The 25-minute walk to reach Cala Tortuga and Cala Presili is well worth it. Fine white sand, crystal clear water, and a view of Favaritx lighthouse in the distance make these the most precious virgin beaches inside the S'Albufera de Es Grau natural park.
   
  Son Saura del Sur Beach – south coast
  The largest of the virgin beaches south of Ciutadella, Son Saura del Sur are two white sand beaches, Es Banyul and Bellavista, separated by a low rising rock formation. With relatively easy access from the car park and shallow water that feels like a warm bath, this is the perfect virgin beach to visit with children.

  Ensaimada
  Originally from Mallorca, this light and sweet pastry can be found on all of the Balearic Islands and is a popular Menorca holiday gift to take home for family and friends. Readily available at most cafés and supermarkets, choose from a plain or cream-filled ensaimada to accompany your morning coffee...or cup of tea!
   
  Mahón Cheese
  For the cheese lovers, you must taste the trademarked Mahón cheese whilst on your Menorca holiday. Cheese making on the island dates back centuries, and today Mahón cheese is exported worldwide. This crumbly and dense cheese made from cow´s milk is sold at its different stages of maturity and is available at every supermarket on the island.   A sausage made with pork, paprika, and other spices, sobrasada is the most popular cured raw meat produced on the island.   Paddle Boarding in Menorca

  If you are looking for a fun activity to try when on holiday in Menorca, give stand up paddle boarding (SUP) a try!

  Although a relatively new water sport to the island, its origins date back as early as 3000 BC, when fishermen stood on rafts made of reeds to travel across water. Over thousands of years, the paddle board has evolved, and modern-day paddle boarding was introduced by surfers in Hawaii in the 1940s.
   
  Gracefully gliding across the water on what looks like a surfboard and using a paddle to propel yourself is a wonderful concept, and unsurprisingly, this sport has become popular on the island. From Menorca beaches, you will see locals and visitors take to their boards to paddle over crystal clear turquoise waters in search of those hidden coves and virgin beaches!
   
  The great thing about this fun activity, which is essentially a combination of surfing and kayaking, is that it can be enjoyed by all ages. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced paddle boarder, you will love the experience!

  Camí de Cavalls with Kids

  Camí de Cavalls, the ancient horse trail which encircles Menorca, is a must-see when visiting the island. The 20 stages of the track offer breath-taking scenery that can be enjoyed by all, including the kids! So when you are on your Menorca family holiday, be sure to adventure out from your villa for a few hours and explore the Camí de Cavalls with kids. All four of these child-friendly walking routes are a fantastic way to explore Menorca´s natural beauty:

  1. Punta Prima to Alcaufar: 2.7km, 30 minutes
  Starting at Punta Prima, a popular tourist resort on the south-east coast of the island, the route follows the coastline to the 18th-century defence tower at Alcalfar. A little further leads to the small but pretty beach at Cala Alcaufar. This is the perfect stop for a dip before heading back after this Camí de Cavalls with kids route. 
  
  2. Favaritx to Cala Tortuga: 1.7km, 25 minutes
  This excursion begins just before one of Menorca´s six lighthouses, Favaritx, and is inside the S'Albufera d'Es Grau National Park. After 10 minutes following the trail, you will reach a beautiful white sand and turquoise water Cala Presili. A further 15 minutes along the Camí de Cavalls brings you to wonderful Cala Tortuga. Be sure to stop and take in the panoramic views and a few photos of the Camí de Cavalls with the kids before heading downhill to the beach.
  
  3. Calan Porter Ravine: 4.4km, 50 minutes
  From the small wetlands at the back of Calan Porter beach, a small break in the dry stone wall marks the beginning of this inland route which winds through dry stone walls and pretty fruit trees. Although the Camí de Cavalls continues on to Son Bou (8km), it is possible to circle back to the entrance of Calan Porter resort. A lovely way to start the day for those staying in a Calan Porter villa rental, is to venture out on this section of the Camí de Cavalls with the kids before the sun is at its hottest.
  
  4. Cala Galdana to Cala Macarelleta: 5km, 50 minutes
  This route leads to those virgin beaches on the postcards! Starting at Cala Galdana resort, follow the easy trail through pine forests and along the cliff edge to idyllic Cala Macarella. However, don´t stop there, a further 5-minute walk leads to its sister beach, Cala Macarelleta. This section of the Camí de Cavalls with kids is a little longer than the others but definitely worth it!

  12 Grapes for Luck!

  New Year´s Eve, known as Nochevieja in Spanish or Nit Vella in Menorcan, is when family and friends come together to welcome the year ahead. All over the world, people anticipate the twelfth chime of the clock on the 31st of December. However, in Spain, it is not just that last chime that counts. The Spanish commemorate each of the twelve bell chimes leading up to midnight by eating a grape! So what is the story behind this curious tradition?

  Popular belief states that the massification of the "doce uvas de la suerte", translated as the twelve lucky grapes, began on New Year´s Eve 1909. A surplus crop of white grapes in Alicante led to the producers launching a sales campaign relating the grapes to New Year and as a symbol of good luck. From there on the white grape became synonymous with New Year´s eve across Spain and the sale of 12 pack grapes to be eaten on the last day of the year continues today. Marketing at it´s best! 
  
  The year 1909 marked the widespread of this custom, however its origin is thought to date back to the 19th century. In 1880 high society Madrid had copied the French custom of private Christmas parties, where one drank champagne accompanied with grapes, whilst the popular King´s Night street party for the lower class had been banned by the council. As an act of mockery and protest against the council restrictions, on New Year´s eve, the working class congregated at the Puerta del Sol square, which was still permitted, and they ate grapes! This traditional mocking of the upper class continued year after year until the mass marketing of the custom at the beginning of the 20th century. 
  
  So if you ever find yourself in Menorca or Spain on New Year´s eve and those around you are cramming a grape into their mouths at each chime leading up to midnight, you now know why!

  Camí de Cavalls Menorca - Menorca´s Horse Trail

  This ancient 185km trail that encircles the island is a must-see when visiting Menorca.

  With the original function of protecting the island from invasion, the trail connects the watchtowers, fortresses and cannons distributed along the picturesque coastline. Winding through the countryside and bordering the cliff edge, soldiers would use the track to transport artillery or patrol on horseback, hence the given name horses trail. For decades the path served a purpose, however, a time came when defending the island was no longer necessary, and in turn, the trail was left unmaintained and forgotten.
  
  Today, thanks to the Camí de Cavalls restoration project, hikers, trail runners and mountain bikers can travel right the way around the island (just as the soldiers once did) and enjoy the spectacular views. The trail is also wonderful for those who prefer a leisurely walk. If looking for a change to lazing by the pool in your Menorca holiday villa or apartment, the Camí de Cavalls will not disappoint.   Menorca´s South Coast Beaches

  Son Bou is the longest beach on the island, with 2.4km of white sand backed by protected dunes and wetlands. The bay is open to the sea, with a gentle slope and water with all shades of blue and turquoise that can get quite wavy when there are south and south-westerly winds. This beach is very popular with families, however, further from the car park and towards the west tends to be a little quieter.

  Santo Tomás
  Santo Tomás beach is 390m long with a "u" shaped bay and shallow waters that are ideal for children. Running parallel to the white sand is a pretty promenade with popular restaurants and children's playground.   Cala Mitjana
  This unspoiled beach with vivid blue waters and pine-topped cliffs is a must see. The very shallow and protected water is ideal for children, however, the car park near the beach fills up quickly during high season and visitors have to walk 1km to reach the beach from neighbouring Cala Galdana.
